Contraceptives and population regulation are the two major topics in China reproductive health program, esp. in China family planning system. The data taken from 1988, 1997 and 2001 Chinese National Survey of Fertility and Contraceptive Prevalence respectively were used to analyze the temporal change in contraceptive use and its relationships with age, number of children and residences of married women.The aims of this research were to study the transit ion pattern of contraceptive use after implementation of reproductive health policies, and to call for especial attention to the changes in medical control and self-control in order to improve the quality of reproductive health services in new population situation.
