Based on the data collected in a survey conducted in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, China, this study found that the new migrant workers from rural areas have not yet been fully melted into the life of urban residents. They are somewhat marginalized from the mainstream urban culture. Regression analysis shows that those factors such as gender, one-family-one-child background, urban life experience, community participat ion, and sense of marginalization all have significant influence on these migrants understanding of their relationship with urban residents and mainstream urban culture.
