During the twenty years' reform and opening up, a pleasing accomplishment has been achieved on the transfer of the surplus rural work force from agriculture to nonagricultural industries, which contributes much to increase peasants' income, accelerating the development of rural economy and social undertakings, promoting the increasing of the national economy. However, the speed of this kind of transfer now tends to slow down. Taking Jiangsu Province as an example, the paper uses econometrics approaches to search the factors that cause the transfer of the surplus rural work force. Then the conclusions and suggestions are followed.
